Going out to Trick or Treat is a long time and well-known tradition for young children who dress in costume and look forward to the treats they’re going to get when the walk their neighborhood going door to door on Halloween.
It’s all in good fun and we McCoys want to share some safety to tips to help you keep you and your loved one’s safe during tonight’s activities.
Trick-or-treating:
- Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.
- Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision.
- Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.
- When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.
The Treats
- When handing out treats on Halloween, make sure to not give out homemade or unwrapped treats to children.
- Make sure to check all candy before being eaten. Only eat candy that is in its original wrapper and unopened.
- Once the candy comes out, everyone is a goblin! Well, they gobble it all if you let them, anyway. Remind children not to eat all their candy at once or it can make them sick. Having a snack or meal before going out to trick-or-treat can help.
On the Road Again
- Be on alert when driving through residential neighborhoods during trick-or-treating hours.
Children are more than twice as likely to be killed by a car while walking on Halloween night as at any other time of the year.
- Drive slowly and eliminate any distractions that might break focus on the road and surroundings.
Take extra time to look both ways at intersections, medians and curbs for any children trying to cross.
Most of all, everyone, have fun. Halloween comes but once a year, and is a great excuse to dress up in costume to be whoever you want to be.
You can be a king or a queen, a frog, Albert Einstein, a superhero, gypsy, astronaut, ballerina, pirate or anyone you choose to be. After much thought and consideration…we are going as Realtors for Halloween!
Why? You ask. Because there’s nothing else we’d rather be!
