It’s that time of the week again folks! It’s time to travel through Legacy Hall and explore the food stalls in our series “Exploring Legacy Hall, ‘One Bite at a Time”‘ where we take a look at each unique food-business and what they’re bringing to the proverbial table to tease and delight our taste buds. This week’s selection is one that will make you want waffles and once you try them, will have you considering waffles as not just a breakfast food anymore.
Press Waffle Company was originally started by brothers Bryan and Caleb Lewis in order to raise enough money to buy a food truck. They met that dream and now have a second location in our very own, Legacy Hall.
What makes these waffles different from your average make-at-home-the-only-real-difference-between-this-and-a-pancake-is-the-waffle iron variety? ‘Liege’ waffles. authentic Belgian sugar waffles are made from a dough as opposed to a batter and are created with one special ingredient – ‘pearl sugar’. This, is what we’re told, is the game changer.
The brothers import the sugar from Belgium where Lewis and his wife discovered the waffles on a trip they took together before their marriage.
When they got married, the couple hoped to serve them at their wedding. Sadly, there was a problem, according to Lewis, no one made them.
He couldn’t, in fact, even find a company that would try. That’s when Lewis hatched the idea to bring a delectable slice of Belgium to Texas.
“When you bite in, you’re biting into a thick dense dough, but you’re getting the crunch of these sugar crystals in every bite,” Lewis says, “and that’s the game changer.”
The menu below shows a nice selection of waffle conceptions with at least one to tickle your taste buds.
Tell Us What You Think
According to the reviews above, these liege waffles are something to write home about. Have you been lucky enough to try one of these yummy delights? Well, instead of writing home, would you consider writing to us? We’d love to hear from you and what you thought (maybe save a phone call for home)!
We’d also love to hear from you if you’re a business owner or restaurant at Legacy Hall. Who knows we may even feature you in one of our upcoming blogs!
